Help with installing and running WispFX 1.0 in After Effects and DaVinci Resolve.

Install in four steps

Every option is explained in the user guide.

  • Engine. Run setup_engine.bat once. It checks your driver, disk space and connection first, and needs no admin rights.
  • Panel. Quit After Effects and run install_ae_panel.bat. For Resolve, run Install for DaVinci Resolve.bat.
  • Open it. In After Effects: Window, Extensions, WispFX.
  • Models. Click Download on the banner. You need a free Hugging Face account that has accepted the Lightricks licence.

Common fixes.

“Models needed” banner

Click Download. For gated files, accept the licence on Hugging Face and run HF Login.bat.

“Engine offline”

Click Start Engine, or run Alpha Forge Server.bat.

No NVIDIA driver, or PyTorch can't use the GPU

Install the latest driver from nvidia.com, restart, then run setup_engine.bat again.

“Not enough free space”

Free the amount it names on that drive and run setup again. Finished parts are kept.

“After Effects is open”

Quit After Effects, then run install_ae_panel.bat again.

“Subject lost on N frames”

Add another click on a frame where it was lost, or raise Edge Room.

Questions.

Which graphics card do I need?

An NVIDIA GPU with at least 8 GB of video memory, on Windows 10 or 11. 8 GB runs Draft, 16 GB runs Balanced and 24 GB runs Quality. We tested on an RTX 4090; other cards are estimates from their video memory.

Does it run on a Mac?

Not at launch. The engine needs an NVIDIA GPU on Windows.

Why do I need a Hugging Face account?

The matting model is made by Lightricks and isn't bundled. You download it with your own free Hugging Face account after accepting the Lightricks licence. Log in once with HF Login.bat, then click Download in the panel. Expect about 33 to 43 GB for the first download, depending on your card. 24 GB cards and Max use Lightricks' official int8 weights (21.5 GB) from their own repository. It includes Lightricks' 15.4 GB text encoder, which setup uses once and then deletes. A smaller first download is planned if Lightricks allows us to ship the prepared file.

Which apps does it work in?

After Effects 2024 or newer, as a panel. DaVinci Resolve as an OpenFX effect and a Scripts menu entry, tested on Resolve Studio 21. The free edition of Resolve isn't tested yet.

How many machines can I use?

An Individual licence covers one user on two machines. You can deactivate a machine from the panel to move the licence. Studio licences are per seat, bought together.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of purchase. You get a full refund if WispFX does not run on your hardware, or a documented feature does not work. Please try the free version first. Details are in the refund policy. To withdraw from a purchase, see Withdraw from a purchase.

Does my footage get uploaded?

No. Matting runs on your own GPU. Internet is needed for the model download and for licence checks.

You can withdraw from a purchase within 14 days of buying. This is your right as a consumer in the EU, and it applies to every licence we sell.

Bought on Gumroad or aescripts

Gumroad and aescripts are the sellers of record for licences bought through them, so the order is theirs to process. Open the order or receipt page in that store and request the withdrawal there, within 14 days of purchase. The receipt email links to that page.

Bought on our site, or if the store page does not work

Email support@wispfx.com within 14 days of purchase. Include the email address you bought with and your order number. We will confirm receipt and handle the withdrawal.
